Capturing a win in the bi-district round of the playoffs, the AHS Varsity Tennis Team defeated Denton High School 18-1 to move on to the area round against Grapevine High School. Last year Grapevine ended Aledo’s season knocking them out of the 2016 region 1 tournament. This year Aledo takes a strong 13-1 record and 13-match win streak into the playoff, with the lone loss coming from Keller, the 2017 District 3-6A Champion. Aledo will face Grapevine at 4 pm Thursday October 19th at Fossil Ridge High School.

Posting wins in doubles were the pairings of: Lance McClure/Miles Grubbs (6-4, 6-1), Alec Meendsen/Jared Kelm (6-0, 6-0), James Young/Tomas Dlouhy (6-0, 6-0), Priscilla Schimming/Erin Davis (6-1, 6-0), Allison Dale/Olivia Key (6-2, 6-2) and Carly Siddons/Concetta Ogden (6-1, 7-5). In mixed doubles Payton Neeley/Tristyn Fambrough (1-6, 5-7) lost do Denton in a tight match.
Sweeping Denton in boys’ and girls’ singles were Meendsen (6-1, 6-1), McClure (6-0, 6-0), Grubbs (6-2, 6-1), Kelm (6-0, 6-0), Young (6-1, 6-1), Dlouhy (6-2, 6-2), Schimming (6-0, 6-2), Davis (6-1, 6-2), Key (6-2, 6-3), Siddons (6-2, 6-2), Fambrough (8-0) and Dale (8-0) all posting wins. In an additional match Ogden (8-4) posted a win, and John Llewellyn (6-8) posted a loss to Denton.
